Shannon and James are completely devoted to the community and have involved themselves with many different fundraising efforts throughout Fall River. Philanthropy inspires them and they understand how imperative it is to the community. Shannon has coordinated an annual children’s fundraiser known as Mistletoes Shoe Drive. She started this shoe drive when she was General Manager of Red Cedar Restaurant, located in Fall River, Ma. The shoe drive has been running strong since 2014, and up to the present time Mistletoes has supplied over 5000 new shoes to children and local families in need. They have serviced St. Vincent’s Home, Local Child Services, Boys and Girls Club, Marie’s Place, every Woman’s Shelter from Fall River to New Bedford, and any family that request’s assistance.
The fundraiser began as a small event with live entertainment and a complimentary cocktail given if a new pair of shoes were donated. The response from the community was amazing and it grew exponentially throughout the years. The last two years Shannon invited all local bars and restaurants to collaborate, and created the biggest pub stroll during the holiday season. Last year they chose to begin this amazing event at The Maritime Museum showcasing one of Fall River’s overlooked attractions, and introduced their catering company Party with Primo. 250 guests enjoyed a full buffet and cash bar provided by Party with Primo. Trolleys then shuttled guests to Fall River’s surrounding waterfront venues. Utilizing such an unusual location and creating such a unique experience spoke volumes and attributed to the sold-out event. To think, eight years ago, a simple trip to the supermarket and an overheard conversation between a little girl and her mother is what compelled Shannon to give back. The child asked her mother when or if she would get new shoes and the mother replied “it’s food or shoes, we have to eat”. Their carriage was pretty bare and the young girl’s shoes were completely worn. In fear of embarrassing or overstepping Shannon never introduced herself or offered help. Shannon lost contact with them as she tended to her son who was 10 months old at the time. The guilt of not stepping in and the fear of where are they now will never subside and Shannon finds solace every year in Mistletoes Shoe Drive. The harmonious blend of Hospitality and philanthropy is Shannon and James’ mission and a speaks truth to their values.
